

ANDREW SALPIETRO MAKES AUSSIE STATES
BRISBANE AUSTRALIA-.This week the Under 23 state held tryouts in Mudgeeraba for the Gold Coast Cougars State team.The QLD U23 State Titles tournament is planned for the weekend of 12, 13 and 14 February 2010 in New South Wales and Following up with April 1-8th in Sydney . The 14 man roster is impressive from top to bottom as so is the Coaching staff Coach Andy Utting from the Australian Olympic team who captured silver in 2004 in Athens and also former mlb allstar catcher David Nilsson. Not to be out done by there coach's this team has 11 out of the 14 players returning from last years state team 3 players who are also signed to mlb contracts ..Pitchers Justin Erasmus age 20 from South Africa signed with the Boston Red Sox and also pitched in this years world baseball classic for his native country South Africa. Also Chris Lamb from the Baltimore Orioles and Aaron Thompson from the Texas Rangers. Furthermore this years team also has some newcomers Steven Chambers from Surfers Paradise and his teammate Andrew Salpietro who is on a Sporting visa from The United States. Salpietro starting 3rd baseman and Closer and Chambers starting SS and SP for the BlueWave where told by there Coaches in a meeting Sunday after their game vs. Runaway Bay .When asked Salpietro about the news on making the State team after he closed out the 9th in order he was quoted in saying '' Im glad I have the opperitenty to play baseball year around and on the other side of the world im living out my dream and these are the days I cant wait for South Wales and Sydney''.. Open Practices to the public are held 4 times a week in between the players regular team schedule practices as the team leaves on the 9th for South Wales on a Charter bus leaving out of Brisbane . We wish our team and players the best of luck as they try to win it all and represent us in Sydney come April.
