The formation of the Fall River Independent Baseball League (FRIBL) was officially announced in the Herald News. Eight teams from the defunct Southeastern Mass Baseball League (SMBL) joined the FRIBL. They are the Black Sox, Blue Jays, Braves, D-Backs (was Cardinals), Pirates, Red Sox, Royals and Twins. The Reds, who are managed by Jimmy Raposa, became the 9th team in the new league.

The Southeastern Massachusetts Baseball League, founded by Matt Bednarz, began play. The Fall River Cardinals defeated the Mattapoisett Mariners, 10-6. The Fall River Red Sox was the other team to play in the three team league.
