


AMERICAN LEAGUE SQUAD CAPTURES SECOND FRIBL ALL STAR CLASH

FALL RIVER (July 3, 2010)-The American League squad scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the AL captured the second annual FRIBL All Star Game, 9-7, over the National League team Saturday afternoon on a dusty Walter "Jigger" Holt Memorial Field at Maplewood Park.
With the game deadlocked at 7-apiece, Jay Martin led off the frame with a home run to center. Craig Doster doubled down the right field line. Two outs later, Colin Petrin added an insurance run with a RBI double to center. Josh Ferreira picked up the win in relief as the Royals' hurler pitched two innings. Royals teammate Ken Dias earned the save as he retired the three batters he faced in a row in the seventh inning.
Kyle St. Pierre took the loss for the NL squad as he pitched the sixth inning. Martin started for the victors as the Royals hurler pitched the first two innings. The Twins Dave Fernandes and Ferreira followed Martin to the hill, as they each pitched two frames. The Dodgers' Chad Crepeau pitched the first inning for the NL squad. Jeremy Brayer and Tom Feltrip each pitched two innings for the NL team. Martin and teammate Doster each had three hits, while driving home as many runs to pace the AL 14-hit attack. Colin Petrin had two RBIs for the AL team. Shaine Robles and Homerun Derby winner Corey Batista (2 RBIs) were the only NL members with two safeties apiece. Mike Sousa plated three runs for the NL.
The AL squad jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, with all of the runs scoring after two outs were recorded. Josh Ferreira walked and stole second, Josh Chouinard singled to left, sending Ferreira to third. Martin lined a 2-1 offering into left center knocking home both of his teammates. Doster doubled the lead with a two run homer to center. The AL added a solo run in the second inning, as Fernandes scored on a RBI single by Doster. The NL squad cut the lead to 6-2 with two runs in the top of the fourth. Dan Marciarille and Sousa plated runs on bases loaded walks.
The National League took its only lead (7-6) when five runs crossed the dish in the fifth. Batista (double) and Sousa each drove home a pair in the inning. $140 was raised for the league's charity ($300 total for the day). The league gets back into action on Tuesday night. The Twins and Blue Jays will square off at Lafayette Park, while the D-Backs and Black Sox will battle each other at Chew Park. Both games will begin at 8pm.
